In his academic career, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1975, followed by a Diploma in Industrial Pharmacy from Alexandria University in 1979. In 1983, he obtained a degree in Theology from the Theological Seminary in Alexandria. In 1985, he received a World Health Organization (WHO) Fellowship to study quality control in pharmaceutical manufacturing at Churchill Hospital in Oxford, England. In 1999, he studied Church Management at the Haggai Institute in Singapore. On March 31, 2015, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Beni Suef University in recognition of his role in promoting social peace. He has also delivered lectures at universities in Canada, Sweden, the United States, and other countries. Before entering monastic life, he worked at a pharmaceutical factory affiliated with the Ministry of Health, where he advanced through various positions until becoming the factory manager. He resigned after serving for ten years, ten months, and ten days. His monastic journey began on August 20, 1986, when he joined the monastic community of Anba Bishoy Monastery in the Wadi El Natrun desert. On July 31, 1988, he was tonsured a monk under the name Fr. Theodore El-Anba Bishoy. On February 10, 1990, he began serving as a priest-monk in the Diocese of Beheira, Matrouh, and the Pentapolis. On June 15, 1997, he was consecrated as a General Bishop for Youth Ministry and Assistant to Metropolitan Anba Pakhomious in the Diocese of Beheira, while also becoming Chairman of the Holy Synod’s Childhood Committee. On November 4, 2012—the day of his 60th birthday—he was chosen by the Altar Lottery to become the 118th Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of Saint Mark. Pope Tawadros II was enthroned on November 18, 2012, in a solemn ecclesiastical ceremony. During the enthronement, he received the pastoral staff and the cross from the holy altar and formally assumed the leadership of the priesthood. The celebration was attended by thousands of bishops, priests, deacons, and faithful, as well as representatives of Christian churches worldwide, government officials, and public figures.
